Little Bible Days · for parents and carers

Your family’s
information.

No family signup, advertising or marketing list. Your study progress stays on your device. Here is what the app saves and what its online services receive.

Updated

For children

You don’t need your own account. The app remembers your family’s activities on this iPhone or iPad so you can carry on later. It gets new stories, pictures and recordings from our website, but it doesn’t send us your answers. There are no adverts and no public profile. Ask your grown-up if you want help changing or removing your information.

Who we are

Kyle Hutchison, based in Edinburgh, Scotland, operates Little Bible Days using the trading name Surprise Bear. Surprise Bear is not a separate company. Email support@surprisebear.com for support or privacy requests.

This notice covers the app and its content downloads. The separate website privacy notice covers visits to our public pages and support correspondence.

What stays on your device

The app saves shared family progress, completed daily activities, quiz choices and results, unfinished lessons, collected illustrated pages, medals, Bible preferences and reading position. Reading-support choices help present activities at a suitable level. It does not ask for a child’s full name, email, exact birthday, photo or location permission. No microphone audio is recorded.

Earlier versions may have saved child nicknames, reading or age bands, assignments and associated progress. Those records are retained so an update does not erase existing work, even though new child profiles are no longer part of setup.

A parent PIN is stored as a salted digest in the device Keychain. Device-owner verification can authorize a PIN reset; we do not receive your fingerprint, face scan or device passcode. PINs, reminder choices and sound/touch preferences stay on each device.

Study records remain until removed using available app or device controls. They are not automatically erased after a fixed number of days. Device backups may include app data according to your Apple settings. Removing the app may delete local progress; please contact support before uninstalling to fix a storage problem.

Daily content, pictures and audio

When Today opens, the app requests the current daily activity over HTTPS from surprisebear.com. It sends your device’s time-zone identifier so the server can select the local date. A new day, foreground refresh or retry may make another request. Browsing and downloading additional packs requests their catalogue and lesson files. If you add the daily widget, it also requests the current published adventure using your time zone. It keeps a small local cache of the title and date, and does not access family profiles, answers or progress.

Some lessons and collected pages download illustrations and narration recordings from the same host. Media can download when content is opened or saved for offline use. Download requests identify the requested file or content revision; they do not include your family’s names, answers, scores or progress. The app’s download sessions do not use cookies.

Downloaded content and media are cached on your device. Repairing a damaged lesson download keeps a private copy of the suspect file on the device; it does not reset family progress or upload that file to us. Files saved for an earned page can remain available even when a book is no longer in the current catalogue.

When a matching recording is available, Listen plays it. Otherwise it uses an installed English voice through the device’s speech service. Some published recordings may be made using synthetic voices. The app does not send your family’s answers, voice or lesson text to an external AI-generation service.

Reminders and other devices

Reminders are optional local notifications. They are scheduled on this device after a grown-up agrees, with 11:00 am suggested initially. The app skips dates it knows your family has completed and refreshes a limited future schedule when opened. It does not send a child’s completion record to a push-notification service. You can change the time or switch reminders off in Family or iOS Settings.

iCloud progress sync is not currently available. Study progress stays on each device. Apple device backup and restore are separate services controlled by your Apple settings. If progress sync becomes available later, we will explain what it transfers and give you a separate choice before enabling it.

Our online services

Namecheap provides our content hosting and support mailbox; Jellyfish filters incoming mail for spam. The primary hosting location is the UK. Processing may also involve the United States and contracted service providers. Namecheap’s Data Processing Addendum includes contractual data-protection and international-transfer provisions, including UK-specific terms. Contact us for information about applicable safeguards.

Servers receive an IP address, request time, requested address and technical request information; a daily request also includes the time-zone parameter. We use these records to deliver requested content, diagnose faults and protect the service. We rely on legitimate interests in operating and securing this limited content service and answering support requests. We do not use these records to profile children’s interests or religious beliefs, target advertising or make significant automated decisions about your family.

Our account is configured to remove the previous month’s archived raw access logs at month-end. Other hosting, mail-security and backup records follow the provider’s service, recovery and legal retention criteria. This is not a promise that every server record or backup is deleted after one month. We may disclose information where a legal obligation requires it or where necessary for a specific security incident or legal claim.

Apple services and purchases

Apple provides the App Store, device speech, optional device backups and any diagnostics you choose to share through Apple’s settings. See Apple’s privacy information for those services.

Paid packs are not currently available. When offered, purchases will use Apple’s App Store and verified access to all books included in the purchased pack. We do not receive card details through the app. There is no auto-renewing Surprise Bear membership, account signup or marketing email list.

Support and data copies

If a grown-up emails us, we receive their email address, message and attachments to answer the request. Support correspondence is accessed using email apps on our devices, including Gmail. We keep each request while resolving it, then for 12 months after resolution, longer only for a specific legal or security reason. A new request does not restart the retention clock for an older resolved request.

Please leave children’s names, photos, answers, religious beliefs and other private details out of ordinary support emails. Check screenshots before sending them. Emailing support does not subscribe you to marketing.

Family → Export study data lets a grown-up save a JSON copy of the study information currently on the device, including retained earlier records. It excludes the PIN and authentication details and is not a full backup or import file. We do not receive the export automatically. You choose a Files destination; another cloud-drive provider may handle that copy under its own terms. Keep it private and remove unwanted exported copies separately.

Your choices and rights

You can keep notifications off, use installed books and Bible text offline, choose whether to fetch more books, and contact us about the information we hold. New daily content and uncached media need an internet connection. There are no advertising or analytics SDKs, social sign-in or public family profiles in the app.

You can ask to access or correct information, request deletion or restriction, object to processing based on legitimate interests, and exercise portability or other rights where they apply. Rights and exceptions depend on the circumstances. Contact support@surprisebear.com; we may need proportionate verification. We cannot retrieve device-local study records from our website, but can help you understand the available device controls.

You can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). You may contact us first, but do not have to. We will update this notice when practices change and explain material new uses before they begin.
